  •  China, 1931
    The 1931 Huang He floods (Yellow River Floods) are generally thought to be the deadliest natural disaster. Estimates of the number of people killed range from 850,000 to 4,000,000. Deaths caused by the flooding include but are not limited to drowning, disease, ensuing famines and droughts.

  • India, 1943
    Three dams collapsed killing about  5,000 people.

  • Bangladesh, 1974
    During the summer and fall of 1974 when flooding extended over nearly one-half of the country and stagnated for more than a month. At least 1,200 people died in the floods and another 27,500 died from subsequent disease and starvation. Approximately 425,000 houses were destroyed or severely damaged and the losses to agriculture were estimated at U.S. $325.9 million. A total of 36 million people suffered severe hardship and losses due to the disaster.

  • Brazil, 1974
     In march of 1974, in Tubarao, Brazil a flood killed more than 1,000 people and left more than 60,000 homeless.

  • China, 1981
    The Yangtze River flooded killing 1,300 people, 28,000 were injured and $1.1 billion was estimated in property damage.

  • Bangladesh, 1991
    In April, 1991 the Bangladesh flooded where 150,000 were killed and $ 1 billion was estimated in property damage.
